Khong Jiam is the easternmost point in Thailand and therefore famous for the first sunrise over Thailand.
This small town is situated on a lush green peninsula at the confluence of the chocolate-brown Mekong and the deep blue Mun rivers, known locally as the Mae Nam Song Si or Two-Colour River. Boat trips or kayaks can be taken out to view the confluence and there is also a daily market held in the town.
Accommodation is more charming than the hotels in nearby Ubon Ratchathani, and tourists have easy access to Pha Taem, famous for the ancient cave paintings on the banks of the Mekong.
