Discover the fascinating and historic city of Ayutthaya, founded 1350 and listed in the UNESCO world heritage.This city was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom which knew its splendour between the 14th and 18th century, and was once one of the largest cosmopolitan areas in the world. In 1767 the city suffered a terrible attack from the Burmese army who razed the city and forced the inhabitants to flee, leaving parts of the city damaged or destroyed. Ayutthaya was never rebuilt and it’s well known today to be an extensive archaeological site, characterised by religious towers “Prang” and massive Buddhist complexes.

Full day: Historic City Of Ayutthaya (L)

Embark on a journey from Bangkok to the historic city of Ayutthaya, Thailand's ancient capital, renowned for its rich cultural heritage. Begin your exploration at Wat Yai Chaimongkon, famous for its towering stupas and serene Buddha statues. Next, visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the most important temple in the Royal Palace compound, and Wat Mahathat, known for the iconic Buddha head entwined in tree roots. In the afternoon, board a boat at Wat Tond Pu for a scenic 1-hour ride around Ayutthaya Island, passing by local temples and witnessing the island’s tranquil riverside life. The tour concludes with a visit to the stunning Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a temple inspired by Angkor Wat, set along the Chao Phraya River, before returning to Bangkok.
